Pixie Panic

September 22nd, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Grumpy Kitties

You may not know, but I have purebred CFA registered manx cats. I’m the only registered manx breeder in all of Canada. The breed is just that rare. Due to a family illness, we haven’t had kittens in the last few years. More on that on the Mystic Tails Manx website.

That said, last Saturday night, the hubby was getting ready for bed and noticed a stain on the comforter. Figured one of the cats had done something. He went to wipe it down and noticed it looked bloody. So of course we went looking to see who may be the source.

Our darling Pixie girl looked like something horrible had happened to her rear end. And it being a Saturday night, there was nothing I could do for her but clean her up (which she did herself). I figured urninary infection (crystals) or even worse.. pyometra (which can be fatal).

So I emailed some cat breeder friends and we agreed that it was probably ok to wait until Monday morning. We all knew how expensive emergency Sunday vet visits can be. So we waited. And come Monday morning, turns out Pixie did have pyometra after all. Luckily for everyone, there were no complications and the infection wasn’t too bad. But it still meant she needed to be spayed. And so she was.

A very stressful day at the office for me, but I managed. Only only called the vet maybe..  5-6 times. The surgery went ok, thank gawd! And Pixie is doing ok, I stopped by for a visit on my way home from work. She has to stay overnight. My poor darling!

But she’s ok. She is O K.

Unfortunately this means I lost her bloodline. Though I’m sure the fine ladies I know in the USA that have Pixie’s father (I still have her mom) would be happy to help me there, Pixie won’t be having any kittens.

But she’s ok. Thank gawd!

    Update Tuesday night.
Pixie is home and doing well. She’s eating and using the box just fine. She is glued to me though, wants to cuddle and stay close. Which is good, I can keep an eye on her. Still soooo relieved everything turned out well.
