Stress Isn’t Good for the Soul
Sunday, November 2, 2008 11:51I’ve never been one to deal with stress very well. My stress coping mechanism (!?) has long since been malfunctioning, if it ever worked! I’ve been on prescribed meds for probably over a decade now, but have recently been seeking a natural, more healthy alternative. Rather than curl up into a fetal ball on my bed, in the dark, and give in to morbid self pity, I think it’s a bit healthier to try something more constructive, like natural supplementation.
Proper Diet Can Improve Pain and Stress
Recent research I’ve personally done has indicated to me that by using the right kind of foods and supplements, you CAN reduce stress naturally. So even if your coping mechanism has been broken for years (like mine), you can turn back the time and get back that carefree self you once had. It’s really easy, actually. You just have to know how.
I have suffered with chronic pain, nearly nightly headaches, leg pains and circulation issues in hands and feet, pinched nerves, endometriosis, a mild scoliosis and severe obstructive sleep apnea, for the last decade. I’ve eaten poorly, not been exercising and was prescribed anti-depression drugs and depo provera (for the endo pain). Both significantly contributed, along with the sedentary lifestyle, to lots of weight gain. As you may know, depo provera alone is known to cause weight gain (I’ve been off it about 5 years now). But there are several factors I did NOT know, in why I may be suffering from so many health issues.
In addition to environmental causes (all the toxins we ingest on a daily basis), poor diet habits and lack of necessary vitamins and minerals can cause pain! Yep, that’s right, pain. Unnatural mystery toxins we ingest on a daily basis cause headache, allergies and other serious side effects. You may experience these side effects from prescription drugs, your household cleaning products and even in the very food you buy.
This ongoing bombardment of toxin ingestion to the body breaks down your immune system and your body’s natural inclination to heal itself naturally. So it is imperative that you boost your immune system and help your body to heal itself through supplementation.
Grandma Said To Take Your Cod Liver Oil
Do you remember when Grandma (or maybe great-grandma) told you to take your cod liver oil? Do you know why? Cod liver oil is full of Omegas, especially Omega 3. It also has a good dose of Vitamin D in it. Omega 3 is something most humans are severely lacking. North Americans typically don’t eat enough fish (I sure don’t, I can’t stand the taste of fish and I wish I could eat it). Omega 3 reduces inflammation, joint pain, depression and anxiety. Omega 3 improves memory and sleep, it may reduce blood pressure, and it appears to reduce ADHD-related symptoms in some children.
So simply taking Cod Liver Oil can reduce stress and pain, improve your quality of sleep, blood pressure and your memory. Why aren’t you taking it?! And how much do you need to take? Definitely consult your physician, health food store nutritionist or your homeopath to ensure proper dosage for your age and lifestyle, but generally, the average woman should be taking 3-4 1000mg pills a day. I take 2 at breakfast and 2 more in the evening.
Vitamin B’s For Stress
Another thing I’ve noticed is a significant difference in my ability to cope with stress when I’m NOT taking my Vitamin Bs. The last few weeks have been no different than the 2 prior, but I have felt the stress a whole lot more because of not taking my Vitamin B complex. It helps so much! I’m taking 2-3 a day. And hope it helps soon. Had a very tearful reaction yesterday grrr.
Stress on the body is just no good for the soul! Lack of nutrition can and will take you down. Make sure to educate yourself on what your body is lacking. Boost your immunity and help your body take care of itself naturally and automatically just like nature intended.
